Beautiful

Things...The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

Kevin: How did the concept of HypKandy come to fruition?

HypKandy: HypKandy.com was born as a result of the perfect storm blowing through my life. I've always wanted to be successful, but I've never been a terribly ambitious person and even if I had been, I lacked the level of self-confidence necessary to follow through with accomplishing my biggest goals. Recently however, both of those facts have changed. All in one year, I got married, bought a house, became a stepmother and started a business. Experiencing all these drastic changes so close together forced me to see myself in a brand new light. I saw that I was in fact capable and ambitious to boot. One day I woke up, found an idea that interested me, decided to turn that idea into a business and then...I started working on it. I had no experience or formal education in business, but I did have an idea, great mentors, Google and the drive to move forward.

Kevin: How did you feel when you launched your business?

HypKandy: The feeling of laying the foundation for your family's legacy is an indescribable pleasure. I felt a rainbow of feelings and emotions. I was excited, nervous, determined, overjoyed, frustrated and I let myself experience all of that. I embraced it as part of the process. The only feeling I refused to let manifest was doubt. I had to make a conscious decision every single day for the first 6 months or so not to allow my mind to succumb to doubt. Mine or anyone else's. That was extremely hard, but in the end it was well worth it because now HypKandy.com is REAL!

Kevin: What motivates you to encourage women to embrace their personal brand of beauty?

HypKandy: I grew up in a house where I experienced a lot of trauma. I survived sexual and physical abuse at the hands of my birth father. I watched my mother endure beatings and other hardships. It wasn't good. Living through that made me into a young woman who had no concept of her own beauty, voice, needs or self-worth. I didn't know the power I had within me. God sent me countless mentors and friends who have each in their own way restored me to the woman I believe God intended me to be. HypKandy.com is the platform from which I intend to share the gift I was given with other women who are in need.

Kevin: Alexander McQueen once said, “Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment.” Beyond the aesthetics, what are some of the themes that your product line communicates to your clients?

HypKandy: Through our mission statement and imagery, I believe my brand communicates the idea that size does NOT in fact matter. We guide women to be bold, to reject societal standards and to own their unique brand of beauty because literally no one can be them better they can. We provide a product that can be made in any size to communicate to our customers that a woman's weight does not determine whether she deserves access to beautiful, quality products.

Kevin: As a parent what are some ideas that you exchange with your daughter about standards of beauty?

HypKandy: My daughter is a creative, outgoing, kind flower child who means the world to me. The main thing I try to teach her about beauty is that it begins and ends inside. No one in their right mind wants to be friends with a beautiful evil person. I want her to know that She was born beautiful, she will live beautiful and she'll leave this earth beautiful as long as she keeps kindness and joy in her heart. True beauty has nothing to do with what's visible outside.

Kevin: How can potential clients get additional information about your product line?
